Learning Conferences 2025
Here is some initial information regarding Learning Conferences for 2025. A Learning Conference is an annual meeting to help develop a strong learning partnership between the student, their whānau and their Kaimanaaki, and as such it is very important for all parties to participate.
Students will still take part in learning on these days. Teachers will set work and students are expected to be working independently at home on these days, apart from when they are attending their Learning Conference.
There will be two options for whānau to attend their Learning Conferences: either at WEGC or online. Please have a conversation with your whānau and make a decision on what will work best for you. If you opt for an online meeting (Friday) you are able to join the meeting from different locations.
Each Conference will be 15 minutes long which your student will facilitate, with the support of their Kaimanaaki. You will book one time slot per student. In the junior school (Years 9 and 10) the discussion will focus on general progress, goal setting, and wellbeing. In the senior school (Years 11 – 13) the focus will be similar, with some time dedicated to planning of assessment.
Bookings for Learning Conferences will be made through our online platform which will open up at 9:00am on Tuesday 11 March. I will send instructions on how to use the parent interviews booking platform with a link that takes you to the login page.
As well as attending the learning conference you will be able to book individual sessions with Matua Tū (WEGC Principal's Nominee) if you would like to talk about NCEA or University Entrance, and with Cathy Matthews (Careers Lead) to discuss student pathways.
If you have any students under 14 years who need to be supervised please contact me via email and we will arrange supervision. School buses will not operate in the afternoon of Thursday 20 March or Friday 21 March.
