Early closure - Friday 29 November 2024

On Tuesday 19 November Hīkoi mō te Tiriti will reach Wellington city. We have received some advice from the Ministry of Education and New Zealand Qualifications Authority.

This is a reminder of the upcoming Staff Only Days at WEGC on Thursday 14 and Friday 15 of November. 

The school Prize Giving is on Wednesday 30th October @ 6.30pm, at the Michael Fowler Centre.

A reminder we have our Junior Parent- Teacher Interviews (online) Thursday 12th September. Please remember that to enable these meetings to happen, students of all Year levels will finish school after Session 3 (11:55am). Buses will run at the usual time.

Upcoming community events and how to register including Tertiary Open Days on Friday

We wanted to remind everyone of some important dates to note for the rest of 2024. You are always able to check these dates on our public calendar which is published on the home page of the school website -https://www.wegc.school.nz/.

The course selection process for 2025 is now underway. Students can choose their courses for next year by logging into the portal. This will be a focus of their Manaaki time this week and next.

Our Parents Association WEPA are holding a mid-winter movie fundraiser to raise funds to support our WEGC students. Come join us for a winter movie - Bettlejuice Bettlejuice.

We are holding our annual Course Selection Evenings here at the College. There will be separate evenings for junior and senior students.

Next week we are celebrating Purple Power Week - Mon 5 - Fri 9 August. This will include a non uniform day on Thursday 8th August.

On Tuesday 18 June we are holding a Senior Parent Report Afternoon for Years 11-13, as such school will finish for ALL students at 12:00pm.

Early Closing of school on Thursday 13 June

Everyone is welcome to attend and witness this amazing ceremony as a wider school whānau. We will have singing, kapa haka, and entertainment to commemorate the new year!

A reminder that we have teacher only days on 30 and 31st May, and that Monday 3 June is a public holiday.

On Tuesday 7 May we are holding Junior Parent/Teacher Meetings for Years 9-10. These will be run online from 1:00pm to 4:30pm, as such school will finish for all students at 12:00pm.

We are excited to announce the annual Wellington East Girls’ College Food Fair. The Food Fair will take place on Friday 10th May from 5-8pm in our school hall and bottom floor of Matairangi. 

A casual vacancy has occurred on the school board for an elected parent representative.

We are turning 100 in 2025 and looking forward to celebrating with our East Community.

Unfortunately due to the weather the decision has been made to CANCEL the House Sports Carnival that was to be held today. We will have a non-uniform day and students are encouraged to wear their house colours. There will still be a sausage sizzle in the Quad at lunchtime.

On Wednesday 28 February we will be holding our annual House Sports Carnival here at school. Attendance is compulsory for all students.

Our annual Learning Conferences will be held on 14 / 15 March 2024. Students will have work set by their teachers and will be learning from home on these days, when they are not attending their Learning Conference.

2024 enrolments for Year 9

Annual Course Selections Evenings are on Wednesday 9th August (Senior Information Evening) and Tuesday 15 August (Junior Information Evening)

PPTA strike action by its members will end immediately. This means that all students can attend school tomorrow.

PPTA have notified that there will be a ban on members' supervision or participation in extra-curricular activities on Wednesday 21 June and Paid Union Meeting on the afternoon of Monday 26 June.

Wellington East Girls' College presents Sister Act the Musical. 27 - 30 June @ 7pm, College Hall

The PPTA has informed the Wellington East Girls’ College Board that its member teachers at our school will be resuming industrial action on Monday 12 June until Friday 30 June.

Our Open Day/Evening is being held on 15 June 2023

The PPTA have advised the industrial action is to recommence effective 12:00am Wednesday 31 May 2023. This means the rostering home days will begin again from Thursday 1 June.

Declaration of Parent Representative Election Results

The Post Primary Teachers’ Association (PPTA) has indicated to the Wellington East Girls’ College Board that teachers at our school will be taking part in the national strike action on Wednesday 29 March 2023. The strike will affect all students.

We are currently running an election for 2 board members. Voting Closes 4pm 24th March.

Learning Conferences are scheduled for 23 and 24 March. These are an annual meeting to help develop a strong learning partnership between the student, their whānau and their Ako teacher. Students will have work set by their teachers and will be learning from home on these days when not attending their Learning Conference.

Inspirational Breakfast Series for 2023 begins Friday 31st March with Tory Whanau speaking (current Wellington Mayor).

A reminder that there will be no classes Sessions 1-3 tomorrow as teachers will be attending a Paid Union Meeting. Session 4 classes will be running as normal (1.50-3.20) and all Yr 9 and 10 students are expected to attend.

Results of the recent School Board Elections

New Zealand will move to a new, long-term approach to COVID-19. These changes have been made based on public health advice and reflect high levels of immunity and declining case numbers across New Zealand.

We have just received information from NZQA about changes to NCEA Levels 1,2 and 3 and to University Entrance (UE) for 2022

Come along to our Food Fair tonight - 5.30pm - 8.30pm

At the close of nominations, we had fewer than the number of vacancies required to be filled for the 3 year term, therefore no voting election required. Voting papers for the 18 month term positions will be sent out next week.

We have been reviewing our staffing situation during the first two weeks of the term. We continue to have some pinch points, however, we are able to return to our normal school times for Monday, Tuesday and Friday for the next two weeks.

We are holding our annual Course Selection Evening here at the College on Wednesday 10 August from 6.00pm-8.00pm

A reminder that Wellington East Girls' College has a Teacher Only day on Wednesday 18 May. This date has been set by the Ministry of Education to support the implementation of changes to NCEA, and wider strengthening of curriculum, progress and achievement practice. 

Over this weekend we have had a significant increase in the numbers of staff and students testing positive for COVID-19. We also now have the emergence of new variants in NZ with an increased risk of re-infection.
