Kia ora e te Whānau,

Next week we are celebrating Purple Power Week - Mon 5 - Fri 9 August.

Purple Power Week celebrates mana wahine and what it means to be a powerful woman, particularly regarding issues surrounding confidence, body image, mental health and cultural identity. This week was established at WEGC in 2015 and since then, it has gained national recognition! We celebrate our East Sisters, past and present and acknowledge all the hard work they have done for us to be able to celebrate Women's empowerment.

In our roles as Head Prefects in 2024, we are both determined to reinforce the importance of Purple Power to our East community and beyond. We have so many exciting events planned that will be emailed out to our students on Sunday.

As part of this on Thursday 8 August we will be holding a non-uniform day. Students are asked to dress in purple and to bring a gold coin donation. All proceeds will go to our 2024 school charity - Rei Kōtuku. Rei Kōtuku provides specialised paediatric palliative and bereavement care to pēpi, tamariki, rangatahi and their whanau in the Central Region of Aotearoa.

In saying that Happy (early) Purple Power Week from us to you

Ngā Mihi Nui,

💜
