Attendance

If your student is absent from school:

Parents and caregivers are asked to use one of the following channels to inform WEGC of your student’s absence on the day before 8.45am or prior to the day of the absence:

  • Email  attendance@wegc.school.nz with the student’s full name, Manaaki class and reason for absence. You may copy in the student’s Kaimanaaki if you would like them to be aware of the absence.
  • Phone 04 385 8514 and select option 1 to leave a voicemail on the absence line. Clearly state the student’s full name, Manaaki class and reason for absence.
  • Use the Schoolbridge app or website to send an absence notification directly to the attendance inbox.
  • Download our app and send a notification directly to the attendance inbox.

Please note if you phoned in the absence a written note or email must be provided to the Kaimanaaki (Form Teacher) on the day the student returns confirming the reason for absence.

Regular attendance at school is important to your student success and there is a clear connection between going to school regularly and doing well in the classroom. Making sure students attend and engage in learning is a shared responsibility. As a parent, you are responsible for making sure your student attends school every day.

Wellington East Girls' College has a Stepped Attendance Response (STAR) as part of our Attendance Management Plan.

Enquiries about absence or lateness can be directed to either the Kaimanaaki (Form Teacher), Dean or the Attendance Officer.

‍If there are any barriers to your student attendance please contact their Dean or a member of the Senior Leader Team for support

More information on attendance, including your rights and responsibilities as parents or caregivers, is available on the Ministry of Education’s webpage.
