Student Leadership

Prefects

There are various Prefect positions available each year. All prefects are expected to:

  • Provide leadership in their portfolio of responsibility
  • Promote the WEGC Values
  • Set a good example in school work, uniform, attitude, behaviour and attendance
  • Be involved and support school events
  • Work collaboratively with other student leaders and staff
  • Relate to peers and other students throughout the school.
  • Provide leadership and motivation to others
  • Represent the school in the community
  • Be involved and support school events\

Process

  • Each prefect position has a job description and area of responsibility
  • Students apply for prefect roles at the end of Year 12
  • Year 12 students vote on nominees for Head Prefect. This provide a guide for interviews.
  • Applicants for other prefect roles are interviewed by panels of teachers involved with the position
  • Prefects have the autonomy to form their own committees and also have support from designated mentoring teachers as well as leadership workshops at the beginning of the year and regular meetings with the principal
  • BOT prefect is selected by annual Student Election - Should a year 12 student be elected this is a prefect position in Year 13
