On Tuesday 19 November Hīkoi mō te Tiriti will reach Wellington city. We have received some advice from the Ministry of Education and New Zealand Qualifications Authority. You can find out more information about the hikoi from this website: https://toitutetiriti.co.nz/pages/hikoi-mo-te-tiriti-2024-information-page

Students with NZQA Examinations on Tuesday 19 November: There are a number of NCEA Examinations. You can view them on this timetable: https://www2.nzqa.govt.nz/assets/NCEA/2024-Timetable-FINAL-4-3-24.pdf

NZQA have advised us that:

  • Students who have an exam when Hīkoi mō Te Tiriti is in their town should be prepared for it to take longer than usual to get to their exam. They should make sure to either allow extra travel time or plan an alternative route.
  • If you live a significant distance from school we encourage you to look at staying with a family or friend closer to school. Please contact our Principal’s Nominee - school if you have any concerns (principals.nominee@wegc.school.nz)
  • Students who join the hīkoi instead of attending an exam will not be eligible to receive a derived grade. Derived grades are only available for situations beyond the student’s control (for example, a natural disaster).

Metlink will have updates about disruptions to public transport on Tuesday 19 November. They have reminded students to expect delays and detours across greater Wellington. Students will need to plan ahead especially if needing to get to an NCEA exam.

The best source of information and one that will be updated regularly is the Metlink website under detours and closures: https://www.metlink.org.nz/news-and-updates/detours-and-closures
